Sanctioning

Rugby Alberta Policy for Sanctioning Tournaments

Rugby Canada requires that all rugby events held in Alberta be sanctioned.  This sanction process is left to the provincial unions to administer in conjunction with Rugby Canada.  The following are the guidelines to having events sanctioned and ensuring the Rugby Canada insurance policy is followed and thereby having all particiapants, including referees, covered by insurance.

There are two different and distinct ways to have your event sanctioned.

1.  If you are hosting event where a number of players or participants will not have Rugby Alberta insurance than please fill in this Sanction Form.  The appropriate fee must be attached to the Sanction Application and rosters must either accompany the application or follow immediatly after the event.  This form should be sent to Rugby Alberta who will sign off on it and forward to Rugby Canada.  Once your event has been approved for a sanction, all particpants will be covered for the requested number of teams and for the specified event you applied for.

2.  In the event of an event where all the participants will be /Rugby Canada/Rugby Alberta members the following Sanction Form should be completed and sent to Rugby Alberta along with the itiniary and the rosters prior to approval.

In both cases please allow a minimum of 4 weeks for approval.  Please also note the below rules for event sanctioning are still in effect.

If you have questions regarding how to have Rugby Alberta sanction your event please feel free to contact the Rugby Alberta office.   Please keep in mind that Rugby Alberta has you and your participants best interest in mind when asking you to follow the steps for sanctioning.  We want to do the best we can to ensure that in the event of an accident your insurance will stand up and that we endeavour to host quality tournaments in Alberta.
