Rugby Alberta is seeking a Manager, Rugby Operations to lead the development, competition, and performance pathways that support players, coaches, and match officials across the province. Reporting to the Executive Director, this full-time leadership role oversees the Rugby Operations department and plays a central part in delivering on Rugby Alberta’s strategic plan.
The Manager will build strong relationships with clubs, sub-unions, schools, and community partners while ensuring that programming, competitions, and development systems are aligned and effectively delivered. This role requires a collaborative leader who thrives in a dynamic sport environment and is passionate about growing the game of rugby in Alberta.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategic Delivery:
- Lead Rugby Operations staff in executing Rugby Alberta’s strategic and operational plans.
- Participate in provincial and national technical and high-performance meetings.
- Build strong relationships with technical leaders, clubs, sub-unions, and educational partners.
- Development & High Performance
- Manage permanent, seasonal, and volunteer staff delivering development and performance programs.
- Lead the implementation of athlete, coach, and match official development pathways.
- Oversee provincial programming, including Alberta Wolfpack high-performance teams.
- Administer application and selection processes for team staff (coaches, managers, therapists).
- Competitions & Leagues
- Oversee the design, delivery, evaluation, and improvement of provincial leagues and competitions.
- Collaborate with sub-unions to ensure consistent and successful competition structures across Alberta.
- Establish meaningful competition models supporting grassroots, club, and provincial participation.
- Coach & Match Official Development
- Ensure continuous improvement in coach education and professional development.
- Collaborate with the Rugby Alberta Match Officials Association to support training and advancement.
- Work with stakeholders to implement clear development pathways for coaches and officials.
Qualifications & Skills

Demonstrated success in technical, development, or high-performance sport system building.

Experience at both grassroots and high-performance levels.

Coaching and/or leadership experience within provincial or national sport pathways.

Degree or diploma in sport sciences, sport management, or a related field—or equivalent experience.

Strong project management, planning, and evaluation skills.

Proven leadership and communication abilities with experience managing staff and volunteers.

Ability to work independently, multi-task, and solve problems in a fast-paced environment.

Strong presentation, facilitation, and computer skills.

Knowledge of rugby in Alberta and Canada is essential.
