The defining values and characteristics of Rugby are integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline, and most importantly, respect. Rugby Alberta believes that we must do all we can to ensure our sport remains fun, safe and respectful for all participants. To that end, Rugby Alberta, with the support of its member unions, has initiated a partnership to introduce the Respect in Sport program for parents.

Respect in Sport online training is widely used among numerous national and provincial sport organizations across Canada. To date, over 1.2 million Canadians have completed Respect in Sport certification training.

Respect in Sport is an accessible, online resource in the prevention of bullying, abuse, harassment, and discrimination (BAHD). The program’s mission is to empower participants to recognize signs of BAHD and eliminate it from the game, through a global culture of respect.
Respect Group was co-founded by former NHLer Sheldon Kennedy in 2004. It partnered with the Canadian Red Cross to create a best-in-class e-learning curriculum for mass consumption. Participants are certified through a 60-minute on-line program, that they can do from anywhere with internet access.

The Respect in Sport Parent Program takes approximately one hour to complete and does not have to be completed in one sitting. The Respect in Sport training costs $12 plus applicable taxes and is valid for four years. You can use an existing respect in sport certification number you have received through another sport, provided that it is still valid. We encourage our members to become early adopters and begin sharing this information within their communities.
